Interesting. I'm sure in the UK it's sort of law to turn your engine off.

It is one of the stoopidest and rudest things people can do. I myself before I leave for work go outside and start my car. I let it warm up. For one it is good for the engine and two it is warm when I get ready to go.
But no, some people are sooo busy they can not think of others and pull up to the pumps leave their cars running. I have noticed it is usually people with poorly maintained cars to begin with. You know...the ones that burn oil and stink up the place.
Another peeve of mine is when people can't take the few minutes to clean off the snow off their cars either. They are driving down the freeway making a small blizzard with the snow dust trailing off the back of their cars. Also their rear lights are covered so you can't see when they are applying the brakes. What will happen is when they brake right in front of you and you can't see their brake lights ...Bamm...you hit them...and guess what? Your impact will knock the snow off and then YOU get the citation for rear ending the Richard Cranium.

Are they farking crazy
Pumps are never perfect and often drip and spill a little. The whole station sits in a haze of fuel vapor. You're supposed to switch of your engine to minimise the risks of a fire. I guess those people with beat up cars struggled to get them started and don't want to switch them off. Still crazy if you ask me. The snow thing is prolly because they are all dressed up for work and don't want to lean over to clean the snow and get their clothes wet. Stupid as hell though because they risk injury instead.

It is in the US too, but if someone doesn't enforce it, what good is the law? To be fair, most people do turn off their cars when filling.
As for the floating gas vapors arguement, one could say that simply driving up to the pump is just as much a hazard as leaving the car on while filling. The problem exists where cars are not burning the fuel properly and an open flame or sparking is evident in the vehicle. Very rare problem, but it could happen, especially on older poorly-maintained cars.
What I hate about winter in the frozen north is all the people who still think it's summer: wearing shorts or no coat, driving at top speed on the ice-covered freeway, etc. Insanity.

Also there is those that leave their cars running then jump back into thier car to stay warm. This is a real problem because that causes static electricity shocks. Hell, I still get those from my car up til June. I even try to shut my car door with my arm while wearing a coat and still feel that sting from the shock.
Really it isn't just people with poory maintained cars that do this. All sorts of people do this. They just don't care, allot of these people are the first ones to complain if you are having a smoke. THEY don't want to breath your cigarette smoke, but I have to breath their car fumes at the pumps.

I hate static any which way it comes. But, yeah, at the pumps it can be a problem.
Personally, tho, I just loooooove the smell of auto fuel vapors. Makes me feel all goose-pimply inside.

When someone makes something satisfying highly addictive then tell you it will kill you e.g. smoking.

*this might be long*
I truly hate self righteous people who tell you how they think you should live YOUR life, all the while smoking crack.....because of course THEIR life is so PERFECT, and they are just smoking crack because lack of better things to do, other then to tell people that what they are doing is morally wrong.........So then you ask yourself *self, wouldn't I be morally wrong if I smoked crack 5 times a day and spewed inane crap from my mouth about the state of other peoples lives? Or would I just be HYPOCRITICAL?* Ahem.. so basically I hate hypocritical people.... in a nutshell

People that judge you for not talking when you really have nothing important to say but feel like there is a need to talk just for the sake of talking. How's the weather?
People that judge you based on your race, sex, gender, or social status.
My boss, who cracks a joke and laughs at her own joke, then expects me to laugh along with her.
